Child Support and Custody Proceedings

Typically, the most contentious part of a divorce pertains to child custody. While parents will usually have the best interest of their children at heart, they often disagree on who the child should live with. Minnesota law contains provisions for joint legal custody, as well as physical custody. The parent with physical custody makes day-to-day decisions, while joint legal custody allows both parents to have a say in major decisions like healthcare, religious training, and education.
